As part of its global expansion initiated in 2017, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) will present its growth plan for the Central American region at an event in Panama on February 11. Building on its established presence in key markets such as the United States, Asia, and the Middle East, AFA aims to expand its operations in Central America through sponsorship agreements, commercial licenses, and football academies.

The event will feature presentations by AFA executives and the participation of Javier Saviola, a former Argentine national team player, who will join the delegation to represent the association. Attendees will include representatives from regional companies, industry leaders, local authorities, and media outlets.

This move is part of AFA’s broader strategy to capitalize on the growing popularity of football in Central America, where Argentina has a dedicated fan base.

AFA’s Sponsorship Strategy AFA Central America Panama

AFA has successfully established over 60 commercial partnerships worldwide, and its Central American expansion aims to replicate this success. The association’s ability to attract sponsors lies in its approach to creating mutually beneficial partnerships. Speaking to Football Business Journal, Leandro Petersen, Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer at AFA, explained:

"The key to the remarkable growth in sponsorship for AFA lies in its ability to provide value and benefit to its sponsors through strategic partnerships and effective brand exposure. By creating a mutually beneficial relationship, AFA has been able to attract a wide range of international brands seeking to enhance their visibility and reach within the target audience of the organization. Additionally, the organization's commitment to delivering high-quality events, engaging content, and meaningful interactions with its audience has helped to establish AFA as a desirable platform for sponsors looking to effectively engage with their target market."

Key Initiatives in Central America

One of the main pillars of AFA’s plan is the development of football academies. These academies aim to provide opportunities for young players, foster local talent, and strengthen ties with communities in the region. Alongside academies, AFA’s focus on commercial licenses and regional sponsorships seeks to build sustainable partnerships that contribute to the association's growth while supporting the development of football infrastructure in Central America.

The event will also serve as a platform to engage with local companies interested in collaborating with AFA, offering them access to the Argentine football brand, which continues to grow globally after Argentina’s recent success in international tournaments.
