Atlético de Madrid has officially renewed its partnership with Google Cloud, extending the agreement for two additional seasons. The collaboration focuses primarily on cybersecurity services, providing integral digital infrastructure support for the club’s men’s and women’s teams, and further strengthening Atlético’s technological strategy as the digital demands of professional football continue to grow.

Cybersecurity as a Strategic Priority for Modern Clubs

In the context of evolving cyber threats and increasing reliance on data-driven operations in elite football, Atlético de Madrid has positioned cybersecurity as a core pillar of its digital transformation. The extended partnership with Google Cloud includes continued use of:

  • Backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) services,

  • Operational system protection,

  • Data integrity assurance,

  • Infrastructure for ticketing, digital access control, and in-stadium digital signage.

This infrastructure supports both day-to-day operations and critical fan-facing systems, helping to ensure business continuity and security during high-volume traffic on matchday.

Cybersecurity in Football: Protecting Data, Fans, and Performance

The club’s use of Google Cloud technology plays a critical role in safeguarding:

  • Fan data, particularly during e-commerce and ticketing transactions

  • Team performance analysis and tactical data, which are increasingly considered proprietary and commercially sensitive

  • In-stadium systems, such as electronic access control and digital screens

By reinforcing its digital defenses, Atlético is not only minimizing the risk of disruption but also building trust with fans, partners, and stakeholders in an increasingly connected matchday environment.

Women's Team Leading the Adoption Curve Atlético de Madrid Google Cloud

Notably, Google Cloud began providing its full cybersecurity service last season to Atlético’s women’s teams, serving as a pilot model before expanding the collaboration to the men’s teams for the upcoming seasons. The structured rollout reflects a phased integration strategy, ensuring that all departments benefit from the same level of cybersecurity infrastructure.

Since the collaboration began, Atlético de Madrid and Google Cloud have developed customized cybersecurity solutions tailored for the complexities of modern sports organizations, including real-time response capabilities in the event of system failure or external attacks.
