SSC Napoli is proud to introduce its new third kit, an innovative design that pays homage to the deep-rooted connections between Naples and Japan. This latest release, part of the ongoing “From Napoli to the World” campaign, represents a cultural journey that unites the Neapolitan and Japanese spirits, emphasizing shared values and a rich historical bond that dates back decades.
A Tale of Two Cities: Naples and Kagoshima SSC Napoli Japanese
The inspiration for this kit goes beyond aesthetics, rooted in the twinning of Naples and Kagoshima in 1960. Despite their geographical distance, these two coastal cities share distinct parallels, from their breathtaking gulfs to the iconic volcanos — Vesuvius in Naples and Sakurajima in Kagoshima. This friendship has evolved over the years, resulting in each city naming a street after the other: “Napoli-dori” in Kagoshima and “Via Kagoshima” in Naples. The camaraderie is strengthened by Napoli’s dedicated fanbase in Japan, who bring passion and enthusiasm to this transcontinental bond.
Design Inspired by the Samurai: Symbolism and Strength
In partnership with EA7, the third kit is crafted to represent a “modern armor” for players, inspired by the Samurai’s discipline and valor. The jersey’s standout features include symbolic elements like the kabuto (helmet), menpo (mask), and katana (sword), each embodying resilience and the blending of two powerful cultures. The shirt’s wave pattern pays homage to traditional Japanese art, while the refined touches around the collar draw on the Neapolitan baroque style, adding elegance and a touch of Naples’ own artistic heritage.
Running down the right side of the jersey are the seven Bushido virtues: Righteousness, Respect, Courage, Honour, Compassion, Honesty, and Loyalty. These principles, integral to Samurai ethics, also resonate with the Napoli ethos, encapsulating the team’s and its fans’ dedication to integrity and loyalty. For Napoli’s players, stepping onto the pitch in this kit symbolizes a fusion of pride, strength, and cultural respect, like modern warriors ready to represent their values.
A Celebration in Kagoshima and Naples
At the kit’s unveiling, Tommaso Bianchini, Chief Revenue Officer of Napoli, commented: “The third kit stands at the heart of our ‘From Napoli to the World’ initiative. We wanted to celebrate the strong, warrior-like spirit connecting Naples and Kagoshima. The launch in Kagoshima honours this unique bond, while in Naples, we filmed at the Ten Shin Zen Temple in Fuorigrotta with students from the Samurai Academy Naples. This marks the beginning of an exciting journey to deepen our connection with Japan and expand our global fan base.”
This launch signifies SSC Napoli’s intention to forge deeper cultural connections, with a strategic vision to reach new fans worldwide, particularly in Japan.
How to Get the Third Kit
The new third kit is available for pre-order on the SSC Napoli Online Store. Starting December 3, it will be available in official SSC Napoli stores, followed by general release on November 4 through SSC Napoli Official Resellers.
