Liverpool FC has announced a collaboration with 1PointFive, a US-based carbon capture and sequestration company, to launch exclusive products for fans with offset carbon footprints. The partnership aligns with LFC’s sustainability initiative, The Red Way, and represents a growing trend of football clubs integrating environmental responsibility into their commercial activities.

Each product released under this initiative will have its carbon footprint neutralized through Direct Air Capture technology, a process that removes CO2 from the atmosphere and stores it underground. Liverpool FC will calculate the total emissions from manufacturing up to the point of distribution, excluding post-sale transport, and will purchase carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits from 1PointFive to offset emissions. This collaboration places LFC alongside major global corporations, such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Airbus, that are already investing in carbon removal solutions.

Liverpool FC’s Sustainability Goals

Ben Latty, Liverpool FC’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating:

"Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at the club. Through The Red Way, we are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and driving positive change for our people, planet, and communities. Joining forces with 1PointFive allows us to explore innovative carbon-removal technologies, sharing knowledge, expertise, and helping to advance our journey to halve all of our operational emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2040."

The initiative marks a key step in Liverpool’s broader sustainability strategy, reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility beyond stadium operations.

1PointFive’s Expanding Role in Carbon Capture

Michael Avery, President and General Manager of 1PointFive, emphasized the impact of the partnership, stating:

"Our organisations have a shared mission of sustainability, and by working together, we can provide a model for how to use Direct Air Capture to address product emissions and empower consumers to make more carbon-conscious choices. Direct Air Capture is a solution that can help LFC achieve its goals in a measurable, transparent, and durable way."

The collaboration underscores the adaptability of carbon removal solutions in addressing product-level emissions and sets an example for how football clubs can incorporate carbon-neutral initiatives into their commercial strategies.
