Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has solidified its role as not only a top-tier football club but also a significant economic contributor to the Île-de-France region. According to recent findings by the Centre de Droit et d’Économie du Sport (CDES), PSG added 243 million euros to the regional economy and contributed 371 million euros in social and fiscal funds for the 2023/2024 season. This impact places PSG among the notable economic players in the region, reflecting a trend where elite sports organizations are transforming into local economic engines.

Economic Influence of PSG on the Île-de-France Region

The CDES report underscores PSG’s deepening financial footprint within Île-de-France. Over the last five years, PSG's economic contribution has risen by 25%, with a substantial portion—74.6 million euros—generated directly from sporting events. The club’s activities support a range of industries, including hospitality, services, and logistics, underscoring the multiplier effect that major sports organizations can have on local economies.

In addition to generating economic value, PSG’s operations directly and indirectly support 2,379 jobs across the region, a figure that includes 746 direct roles within the club and a further 1,342 induced by the club’s regional activities. PSG’s economic growth is reflected in its revenue, which reached 805 million euros for the season, ranking it as Europe’s third-highest-earning club and showcasing its financial resilience.

Social and Fiscal Contributions: Beyond the Pitch

PSG’s fiscal and social contributions for 2023/2024 reached 371 million euros, a 44% increase since 2018/2019. This level of contribution aligns PSG with major French companies, positioning it as a key regional player. These funds benefit public services and infrastructure within Île-de-France, amounting to around 7.4% of the regional budget. Since 2011, the club and its partners have contributed close to 3 billion euros to public finances.

This contribution aligns PSG’s fiscal influence with that of France’s largest corporations, offering insights into how top sports brands are establishing themselves as fiscal stakeholders in their regions.

PSG For Communities: Investing in Youth and Social Programs

Beyond economic metrics, PSG has focused on social outreach through PSG For Communities, an initiative which aims to foster community development and social engagement. Since 2000, PSG’s philanthropic programs have reached over 300,000 young people across Île-de-France, with close to 15,000 benefiting during the 2023/2024 season alone. These programs cover everything from educational initiatives to sports development and social assistance.

Notable programs under PSG For Communities include the Red & Blue Schools, which offer sports education and life skills training, and Allez Les Filles, an initiative aimed at increasing sports participation among young women. Additionally, the Solidarity Canteen provides meals and services for students and community members, a noteworthy example of PSG’s commitment to social inclusion.

PSG’s Regional Impact in the Broader European Football Landscape

PSG’s position in the European football economy has enabled it to amplify its impact at home. With an average annual growth of 17.9% since 2010, PSG has used its increasing revenue to support its local community while remaining competitive on the global stage. The club’s ability to draw international attention not only enhances its brand but also strengthens Île-de-France’s visibility as a premier destination for sports and tourism.
