(re)boot, the innovative sustainable upcycling brand, has taken a significant step in transforming the sports industry with the launch of its latest collection in collaboration with Major League Soccer (MLS). This collection, developed in partnership with several MLS Clubs and the renowned LA-based upcycling studio SUAY, represents a big effort to revolutionize fan merchandise and address the pressing issue of sports textile waste.
A Collaborative Triumph
Founded by Gabriella Mas, (re)boot has garnered attention for its unique approach to sustainability by repurposing iconic sports gear. The latest collection, created with MLS and six distinguished clubs—Austin FC, Inter Miami CF, LA Galaxy, LAFC, New York Red Bulls, and the Philadelphia Union—demonstrates the brand's commitment to innovative solutions that keep iconic gear in play.
Upcycling Leftover inventory to Iconic Fashion
The 2024 MLS collection features materials sourced from leftover inventory, including Leagues Cup 2023 T-shirts, official MLS club training tops, and game-worn kits from previous seasons. By reimagining these items, (re)boot and MLS are setting a new standard in sustainable fan engagement and sports merchandise.
Following the success of (re)boot’s debut with Inter Miami CF last year, this new venture has upcycled thousands of Leagues Cup T-shirts, previously deemed unusable due to a production error. These shirts, once destined for the landfill, have been transformed into unique oversized polo tops, blending vibrant streetwear culture with sustainability.
"Our latest collection is a labor of love between (re)boot, MLS, and Suay Studio. It embodies our mission to reduce textile waste in the professional sports industry while emphasizing creativity and design to solve some of the world's biggest challenges," said Gabriella Mas, Founder and CEO of (re)boot. "Collaborating with MLS on our second collection, which is four times the size of our first, showcases the incredible power of unity in scaling innovative solutions."
Technological Innovation for Enhanced Fan Experience Major League Soccer (MLS) (re)boot
(re)boot has once again partnered with Avery Dennison to incorporate NFC technology into the jerseys' jock tag labels. This integration provides a unique brand narrative and an interactive digital experience for fans via their mobile devices. Avery Dennison's involvement enhances the textile sorting process and supports (re)boot's mission by enabling a network of circularity partners with on-garment digital solutions.
"Tackling sports textile waste is a significant challenge that requires collective commitment. This exciting collaboration is a testament to (re)boot's ability to change the game regarding discarded apparel. We are proud to support (re)boot with digital ID solutions that drive circularity transparency and garment longevity, enhancing both brand and fan experience," said Mike Colarossi, Head of Enterprise Sustainability at Avery Dennison.
