The Saudi Pro League (SPL) is making a push into Brazil, aiming to strengthen its ties with one of football’s most significant player development hubs and commercial markets. With 26 Brazilian players currently competing in the SPL—the largest foreign contingent in the league—the connection between Saudi Arabian football and Brazilian talent has been growing for decades.
SPL executives have traveled to São Paulo to hold discussions with representatives from the Brazilian League, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), sports marketing agencies, and potential commercial partners. The goal is to increase engagement with Brazilian fans and explore new business opportunities, as the league continues its global expansion efforts.
Growing SPL Viewership in Brazil Saudi Pro League Brazil
Brazilian interest in the SPL has already gained momentum. Over 100 league matches have been streamed in Brazil via Canal GOAT and Band, accumulating 50 million views in the 2023-24 season. With several high-profile Brazilian players in the league, Saudi clubs are looking to capitalize on this growing audience by strengthening their presence in the country.
Mohammed Basrawi, General Manager of Marketing, Communication, and Content at the SPL, explained the league’s objectives:
“Brazilians have a deep and passionate football culture, and we want to bring them closer to the excitement of the SPL by establishing a long-term and immersive presence in the country.”
Localized Marketing and Fan Engagement
To further integrate itself into the market, the SPL is launching official Brazilian social media channels to provide localized content, behind-the-scenes access, and exclusive engagement opportunities for fans. Additionally, the league is looking to build a local fan community and expand its presence at key football events in Brazil, ensuring visibility during major moments in the country’s football calendar. The SPL’s expansion into Brazil also represents a broader commercial strategy.
With Brazilian players playing a major role in Saudi clubs, increasing the league’s visibility in Brazil could benefit merchandising, sponsorships, and future player recruitment efforts. The move is part of Saudi football’s broader strategy to expand its presence internationally, as the country increases its investments in sports, builds partnerships, and seeks a stronger foothold in the global football market.
